A History in Education:

St. Thomas School, thought to have been founded in the 1900’s, was actually started in 1857, which comprised of 74 learners, and now in 2014 has grown to ± 1350 learners.

The school initially founded by the Anglican Church (formerly known as the Church of England), who also held their Church
Services in the school classrooms (formerly the home of “Oom” John Kaptein with 9 classrooms) in town, and was later as a result of the government of the time moved to Wesbank in 1957, with 14 classrooms, an office and toilets. The school is currently still situated at the same venue in Gardenia Avenue, Wesbank, Malmesbury.

The school has over the past 157 years seen former Missionaries observing the day to day activities of the school, through
numerous principals and teachers, to the resident principal Mr. Michael Donald De Kock and his staff of 42. It has yielded,
many Teachers, Doctors, Lawyers and people in various other professions, and trades.

Each of the staff members are set on education as their primary task, up to and including managing the individual learners
under their care.

Why St. Thomas Primary School?
This is a No School Fees School.

Learner registration occurs for:
• Grade R = Age 6
• Grade 1 = Age 7
• Phases:
- Foundation
- Intermediate, and
- Senior

Academically we can boast with a pass-rate of between 90 – 100%.

We have received Honourable Mention for our results from A.N.A.

Our Educators compete and have received nominations and rewards from the Provincial Teachers Awards.

Having a balanced life-style is important, and therefore we strive to provide learners with the best in all of the following:

• CAPS based Curriculum

• The Unit Class for learners with learning disabilities called “Glinster-Ogies”

• We have 3 dedicated Grade R Unit Classes for approximately 90 learners.

• Music

• Ballet

• A School Choir, whom have published a CD, and compete provincially, as well as having rendered items at the Artscape
Theatre Cape Town.
• Competing in Eisteddfods for Dance, Music, and Song.
• Competing in the WOW-Festival at the University of Stellenbosch for Reading and Spelling.
• Olympiads in Maths and Language (Portfolio development, Spelling and Presentation)
• Competing on the sport field in the Boland Schools League, SA Championships, and Provincial Championships for Tennis,
Cricket, Rugby, Netball, Athletics and Drum-Majorettes.
• We provide a feeding scheme at school.
• We possess the following facilities, i.e. a:
- School Hall
- Library
- Science Lab
- Computer Lab
- Ballet Classroom
• We are directly linked to:
- All the local Doctors
- Clinics
- Hospital
- Dentists
- Safe Schools and SAPS
